Automotive Tutor
Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role
EIT is seeking a skilled and experienced Automotive Tutor to join our School of Primary Industries & Trades & Technology team. This Automotive tutor role is required to teach basic vehicle servicing and fundamental automotive skills to High School students one to two days per week (typically a Friday) starting in February 2025 until September 2025.
Key responsibilities include:
Student Learning
- Teach industry-specific subjects, ensuring alignment with course learning objectives.
- Facilitate engaging learning experiences while maintaining professional standards as a role model.
Student Well-Being
- Provide assistance to students as needed and support their overall well-being.
- Collaborate with the Trades Academy Pastoral Care team to address student needs.
Evaluation/Assessment
- Prepare, mark, and record assessments, including tests, projects, and assignments.
- Implement effective and fair evaluation and assessment processes.
Administration
- Contribute to decisions on course structure, procedures, and moderation, meeting deadlines.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and programme details.
General
- Comply with Business Relationship Unit policies and Health and Safety guidelines.
- Attend relevant staff meetings and undertake additional duties as directed by the manager.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
Knowledge and Experience
- Extensive experience in the relevant industry is essential, with familiarity in industry unit standards preferred.
- Strong practical knowledge of the industry and its applications.
Skills
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong administrative and organisational abilities.
Special Aptitudes
- Ability to connect theoretical knowledge to practical applications for students.
- Commitment to cultural sensitivity, safety procedures, and supporting youth, particularly Māori and Pasifika students.
Personal Attributes
- Professional integrity, reliability, and flexibility in meeting industry and student needs.
- Friendly, approachable, and a strong team player with a sense of humour.
Qualifications
- Relevant industry qualifications or significant industry experience is essential; adult teaching qualifications are desirable.
