Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role

The Systems Administrator is a permanent part-time position (0.55 FTE, 20 hours per week) based in Hawke's Bay, responsible for supporting, maintaining and developing the information technology systems and computing laboratory environments that enable the effective delivery of teaching and learning within the School of Computing. The successful candidate is expected to commence employment in January 2027.

The appointing salary for this role will be between $60,161.00 and $62,559.00, dependent on skills and experience.

The Systems Administrator is based in our School of Computing reporting to the Head of School – Computing and will be responsible for:

• Providing technical support for computing laboratories and associated information systems.
• Managing incidents and resolving system issues for staff and students.
• Maintaining computer systems to ensure reliability, security and performance.
• Monitoring system availability and implementing performance improvements.
• Developing and maintaining business continuity plans for key systems.
• Ensuring change control processes are followed for system modifications.
• Designing technical solutions that meet the needs of staff and students.
• Implementing and supporting new systems and technologies.
• Evaluating opportunities to improve existing systems and services.
• Building strong relationships with lecturers, students and Digital Team staff to support effective service delivery.

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Relevant tertiary and/or industry qualifications in Information Technology.
• Proven systems administration experience.
• Experience with Windows operating systems, including Active Directory and Hyper-V.
• Experience with Microsoft Server technologies, SQL and SharePoint.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, firewalls and managed switches.
• Experience administering Linux operating systems.
• Database design, analysis and management skills, including MySQL and MSSQL.
• Strong analytical and methodical problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to a range of users.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and adapt quickly to new technologies.
